林智堅表示，市府投入1500萬元興建虎林棒球場，讓基層棒球隊擁有自己的「主場」，每年更投入810萬元經費，補助基層棒球隊的訓練及比賽費用，讓球員們有更好的練習環境，今年成德高中棒球隊也順利在玉山盃全國青棒賽奪下全國第三佳績，讓竹市棒球界士氣大振。
